CLEAR LAKE – Once again, the community of Clear Lake has rallied to support a person in need.
Family, friends and supporters of Clear Lake Police Chief Rex McChesney, who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, enjoyed a pancake breakfast at the Clear Lake Fire Department. The event was a fundraising for Chief McChesney.
The morning started off at 7 AM, and a trickle of hungry people started to appear. By 8:30 AM or so, the tables were full, the sound of good conversation and laughter filled the room. People were arriving at the Clear Lake Fire Department from all directions, waiting in line for a hit breakfast.
“Our goal is to serve at least three thousand people,” said volunteer Terry Anderson. “The average is three thousand and with this being a fundraiser, we hope to get over that.”
Many of the volunteers were wearing purple t-shirts with the slogan “Help T-Rex Take a Bite out of Cancer.”
Rex’s wife, Jody, was thrilled with how the morning was turning out.
“This is amazing,” she said, the emotion showing.
With his arm around his wife – and looking around the room as well – Rex said “It’s nice to have such a huge support system.”
The breakfast was a free will offering meal. With the proceeds going to help Rex and Jody with inevitable bills. The event is open until 1 PM.
