Northwood’s 4th of July and Founder’s Day Weekend Celebration starts today

Northwood WatertowerNORTHWOOD – The celebration of Independence Day in Northwood began Thursday morning with a variety of favorite events and activities and will continue through Sunday night.

Thursday morning started with a breakfast served by the Methodist men from 7:00 am until 9:30 am.

The annual Fourth of July parade started at 11:00 am, which featured a number of local businesses, community groups, unique vehicles, equestrians and music.

Due to the recent flooding in Northwood, the events previously scheduled for Swensrud Park are being held at the Worth County Fairgrounds.

Some of the foods available at the fairgrounds are the Signature Supper Club, the Daisy Wagon and Mini Donuts of Northwood. There are inflatables for the youngsters, as well as, Half Pint the Clown.

At 2:00 pm, the area youth who were chosen as Northwood namesakes will be announced and also the announcement of the winners of citizen awards. At 3:00 pm, there was a young people FFA Pedal Pull.

Other events included horse shoe and bean bag tournaments. The explosive close to the day’s events will begin at 10:00 with the annual fireworks. The fireworks display will be set off from the Northwood Airport.

The Fourth weekend festivities will continue on Friday, July 5. The Adult Beverage Garden with food provided by the Daisy Wagon and Mr. Taco will begin at approximately 6 p.m. Cherry Gun performs at 9:00 pm.

An activity for young people will also begin at 6 p.m. with a pool party, Kindergarten through Senior year students invited for the music, games and food.

Saturday morning starts at 8:30 am, with a Tune run/Walk, registration at the Northwood Theatre.

At 9:00 am, Softball tournaments and at 10:00 am, Northwood wants you to help start a tradition with the First Annual Co-ed Sand Volleyball Tournament in Swensrud Park. Double Elimination, 100% payout, play to 21, must win by 2, $60/team, must have equal to or more men than women. Pre-registration recommended. Saturday afternoon there the Annual Golf Tournament at Northwood Country Club starts at 1:00 pm.

At 6:00 pm the Adult Beverage Garden opens, with Rhino performing at 9:00. There will be a Fireman’s Raffle at 8:00.

On Sunday, the softball tournament continues at 9:00 am and Sunday night, a dance at the Northwood Community Center until 11:00 pm, with Harry O as DJ. There is a $5.00 cover.
