MASON CITY – Kayleigh Rea Hormann, age 21, of Mason City has pled guilty to a simple misdemeanor count of 5th degree theft for stealing a Toys for Tots donation canister at the Mason City Little Caesar’s Pizza store on October 29th, 2012.
Hormann had initially pled not guilty to the charge after she was identified by numerous members of the public from both Minnesota and Iowa after the Little Caesar’s Pizza Store’s video showing Hormann sliding the donation canister into her coat was released to the media by Mason City Police Department.
Moments before a scheduled trial was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 15th, Hormann agreed to plead guilty to the charge, rather than face the trial with the clear video evidence.
Presiding Magistrate Rolf Aronsen accepted her plea of guilty to the theft and ordered Hormann to pay $20 in restitution. Magistrate Aronsen then stacked on a $100 fine, $35 surcharge, $60 court costs, and a $125 law enforcement initiative fee for a total of $340. Magistrate Aronsen additionally ordered Hormann to report to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department to be fingerprinted.
Hormann has asked for a $50 a month payment plan, a review hearing has been set for March 8th, 2013.
