From Waterloo police: “On Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at approximately 12:30 PM, Officer Adam Galbraith stopped in the 800 block of W.2nd Street to investigate an illegally parked car. When he looked in the car he saw a baby boy in a car seat. The windows in the car where rolled up and the baby was covered in sweat. The baby’s skin was very red and he was gasping for air. Officer Galbraith immediately got the baby out of the car and called for medical assistance.
“Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived, treated the baby and transported him to a local hospital. Officers located the mother about 30 minutes later in an apartment building nearby. The mother, Shawna Raeann Bailey, age 24, of 439 Vermont Street, Waterloo, IA was charged with Child Endangerment.”

Don’t send her to prison–that’s too good for her. Simply strap her in a car. Park the car in the sun. Roll up the windows. Walk away and leave her there with no knowledge of when she’ll be released or how long she will suffer. That’s exactly what she did to her child. People should be punished for abusing a child by treating them exactly the way they treated the defenseless child.
You can move to the Mid-East with the rest of the people who want biblical punishment involving and eye for an eye. The bible was written there and they still carry out punishment in that uncivilized way there. Go there and practice your biblical beliefs.

Was not this woman’s treatment of an innocent child a form of torture? It certainly was inhumane treatment. I’m sorry you believe my punishment is too harsh. Try working somewhere that treats victims of child abuse and then see if you still believe abusers deserve “civilized” punishment. It changed my opinion.

Please read the entire Bible before preaching. Get the whole Story. The Bible is not a how to guide for punishment. Don’t leave out the New Testament.
I’m glad you guys aren’t the ones making the laws and setting the punishments. We’d have lynchings before trials if you had your ways. Due process would be out the window. Everyone deserves a fair trial, even the guilty. I get sick of legal loopholes, too, and I feel that judges are way too lenient, but I do believe in trials. I had a cousin murdered and a suspect was arrested. The defendant was found not guilty. By the end of the trial, my cousin’s mother had decided that the defendant was truly innocent. The evidence presented proved to her that he had not murdered her son. They never found who did it, but she knew that justice was done in that trial for that person. How can one not believe in due process when this type of thing happens? Yes, there can be cut and dried cases of guilt, but there still need to be trials to protect the suspect from people like you and your ideas of justice. We are a civilized society. We are better than that. We need to set the bar for decent, humane behavior.
But we need to stop tolerating the crap we are seeing in society. We need to crack down on bad behavior in schools, whether the parents like it or not. Parents should NOT be able to dictate how their children are disciplined in school. I do not mean corporal discipline. I mean attitude adjustments. Special assignments, special behavior counseling, separation from “bad” influences at school, whatever that child needs to be turned around. They should be forced to participate in some type of sports or other extracurricular activity to keep them busy and out of trouble. And the parent should have no choice because way too many parents are enablers of their children’s bad behaviors. And parents who do not cooperate should be reported to DHS for failure to parent appropriately. Yes, it would be a hell of a mess, but so is our society. And you can all see what society has become. We have people like this chick not giving a crap about her child. Rampant drug-fueled narcissism among our youth. Meth dealers all over the place. Not enough prisons to hold the repeat offenders. Twelve and thirteen-year old girls having sex with much older men just for the heck of it. Our schools need to teach ethics, not religion. Good old right and wrong.
Nowhere did I say that a child abuser should not be given due process and a trial. Under our justice system everyone is entitled to that. My point is that a prison term given a convicted child abuser does not equal the mental and physical suffering he/she foisted on an innocent child who had no idea when the abuse would end or even if it would end. Would it satisfy your sense of civility if a convicted child abuser was given the choice of whether to spend a specific time in prison or endure the exact abuse he/she gave to the child? My guess is that 100% would choose the former.
