Editorial: Globe seeks revenge on Hampton Chronicle for ficticious “sharing agreement” with NIT

Editorial by NorthIowaToday.com Publisher Matt Marquardt –

The Hampton Chronicle has informed NorthIowaToday.com that the Globe Gazette is refusing to “share” stories between the two media outlets due to a perceived “agreement” between the Chronicle and NIT.  “Sharing” stories is a common practice between media outlets if there is a common interest.

A Chronicle reporter informed me on August 3 that “a higher-up” at the Globe Gazette “wouldn’t share a story with us because the Hampton Chronicle had a sharing agreement with North Iowa Today.”

“Did you know of any such thing…?” the Chronicle reporter asked me. “My publisher and I didn’t. Misinformation travels quickly.”

Unfortunately, yes, misinformation does spread quickly, and once again, the Globe has fallen victim to its own shoddy fact-checking skills, and perhaps a lust for revenge, and is now taking it out on the Chronicle.

As the Globe is sticking to its policy of pretending NorthIowaToday.com doesn’t exist, they never even asked me if NIT is working with the Chronicle.

The Chronicle asked me to tell Globe Gazette Publisher Howard Query no sharing agreement exists.  I’ll oblige.

Howard, I know you and your newsroom read NIT, therefore I know you will see this.

I can assure you that NIT is not working with the Chronicle in any way; we do not share stories.  NIT has its own photojournalists and sources in the area south of Mason City, that is how we get our stories from that area.

Now, see if you can play nice with our neighbors.
