BRIEF: Iowa recruit arrested in Des Moines

Marc Morehouse, CR Gazette –

Iowa football recruit Trevon Young was among six people arrested Wednesday for third-degree burglary and interference with official acts, according to Des Moines Police records.

Young, a linebacker who’s going into his senior season at Des Moines Lincoln, made 61 tackles last season and also was offered a scholarship by Iowa State.

According to the Des Moines Register, Lincoln hasn’t ruled on whether Young, 6-4, 220, can participate on the football team this fall.

Young is the third incoming Hawkeye hit with an arrest before his arrival on campus. Last August, Sioux City Heelan running back Michael Malloy pled guilty to obstructing a police officer and eventually lost his scholarship. He will walk on at Iowa this fall.

Erie, Pa., running back Greg Garmon was arrested in June and pled guilty on July 18 to possession of drug paraphernalia. He is on campus and set to compete for carries this fall.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz can’t comment directly on recruits, per NCAA rules. He will speak to the media today during Big Ten media days in Chicago.
