Manly Public Library to Hold Plant Sale Fundraiser

MANLY, IA – The Manly Public Library is having a starter plants and baked goods sale on May 19, 2012, from 9 am to 1 pm.

Karen Crimmings, trustee board president, applied for a Libri grant. The Libri Foundation donates quality children’s books to rural public libraries. Local sponsors are to raise $350.00 of the $1,050.00 to $1,070.00, which figures to a 2-to-1 ratio. The library has been chosen to receive an additional $350.00 worth of math and science books for a total of $1,400 worth of books.

As our part of the fundraising, the trustee board decided to fill a need in the community as one of our long time green houses closed. We are doing starter plant sale. This promotes the idea of being green and to live more sustainable lifestyles. Also growing our own vegetables instills in us to live and eat healthier. Library trustee Amanda Leake has been growing the plants at her home for over a month. She has bought quality seeds, and we are excited to see the plants for sale. The library Director, Marilyn Pinta said, “The board hopes we can make this an annual event”.

If you have questions, please call the library at 641-454-2982. The library is looking forward to seeing supporters on May 19th.
