Local police take wanted felon off the streets

Shortly before 12:30pm Friday wanted fugitive Norris Odell Hughes JR, age 26, was captured when members of law enforcement from Mason City Police Department and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department converged on his location.

Hughes tried to run on foot as he did when he was captured on January 26th of this year. The foot chase ended quickly near Jefferson Ave North & 5th Street NW.

Hughes had been wanted since May 4th for a probation violation in a felony 3rd degree burglary conviction and a serious domestic abuse assault charge. Hughes also failed to appear to court on May 8th to a scheduled plea change hearing for charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer and possession of methamphetamine related to his last foot chase.

Following Hughes last foot chase he remained in the Cerro Gordo County Jail for a few weeks awaiting court proceedings in his cases until District Court Judge Christopher C. Foy ruled to lower his bond requirements at a bond review hearing. Three days later Hughes posted the 10 percent bond requirement set by Judge Foy.

Hughes is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $16,300 cash or surety bond pending further court proceedings in his criminal cases. Those cases now add serious domestic abuse assault, interference with official acts in addition to his pending probation revocation hearing in a 3rd degree burglary conviction. New court dates will have to be set in his plea change hearing for charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer and possession of methamphetamine.

Hughes criminal activities started as a juvenile include other charges of burglary and assault causing bodily injury.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

By the sounds of this fellow, he appears like another anti-social individual without the ability to turn his life around.

If the judges gives this guy another break something is wrong.

This fellow needs about 15 years which means he will serve 5 (I think). Maybe with 5 years of incarceration he will have time to think about his actions and do a turn around.

As of this time that is the only correct solution for society.

This is the kind of trash that lives in this town. No wonder people around here and the whole state are starting to get weapons permits. If a person is willing to assault a law enforcement officer what do you think he would do to the average joe on the street. Lockem up and throw away the key and quit wasting money in the court system and officers time.

Strange fruit!
