School board approves $6K more for former employee who got unauthorized $10K

MASON CITY – The Mason City school board approved a contract for work at $60.00 an hour for a former school district employee who was paid an unauthorized $10,000 in salary.

By a vote of 5-1 Monday night, with director Jodi Draper the lone “no” vote (Doug Campbell abstained), the Mason City school board approved an extension of the human resources consultant agreement with Jodie Anderson until September 30, 2017.

This would be an extension for 4 weeks X 25 hours per week (100 total) X $60/hour for a total of $6,000.

According to school documents, “the agreement with Jodie Anderson as human resources consultant since July 17 has positively served the district as expected. Jodie’s knowledge of the district and its HR procedures and practices; as well as her relationships with administrators and staff; and her organizational skills have helped the district fill 110 positions to date, a large number of these coming after July 17.”

According to the “rationale” from the district for this proposal, “While a part-time human resources director has been adequate in preparing the district for the first day of the 2017-18 school year a full time director is necessary and appropriate to now find as soon as possible. The extension of the agreement with Jodie Anderson will allow the district to meet its HR needs as the school year starts and rely on her expertise in assisting the district in recruiting, screening and hiring a new Director of Human Resources.”

The search process for a new Director of Human Resources will begin August 22, and the district “anticipates having a recommendation for the position at the September 18 board meeting.”

The reaudit report from the state auditor released Monday shows improper payments of $10,900.24 were paid on Jodie Anderson’s behalf. (See table 1 on page 11 of the reaudit report.)

In my opinion , the previous School Boards knew what Micich was doing and agreed to the contract and sending her down the road. I think they thought all of this would just go away and would save them money in legal fees. But her lackey Penca learned how to carry on from her. By not hiring him as Superintendent, that says a lot. They clearly didn’t count on Board Member Jodi Draper to find the egregious and improper transactions. It does appear that at least some of the transactions may be illegal. I want to know who actually, physically used the Board Stamp and who asked that person to do it ??

Thank you “taking care of business” for your comments. It is nice to see that there are other posters that get it without name calling or making snarky comments. It is about character and integrity. We seem to have lost that somewhere along all the transformational changes that have taken place in today’s “New normal”. It is refreshing to see others still have that thought process. Maybe there is still hope.

What’s the story on charges being pressed for a kid taking a brownie? I would like to know.

Is this another “treegate” type incident?

What about when Micich was fired a year early and it cost the district $200,0000… Whose talking about that dumbass decision. She had one year left on her contact and was done. Pay her salary one year and be done instead a few on the board want to micromanage and cost the taxpayers even more. They need all new blood….. Drain that Swamp

I think it cost us around $290,000.00. It was the prior board that gave micich the 2 year contract. The board president, Mark Dodd, said this will give the next board the maximum flexibility, (I believe a 1 year contract would have given more flexibility.

Well now that makes a lot sense. Looks to me like she is still $4000 ahead. I’m in the wrong job. If she were an honest person she would not accept that money and offer to pay back the money she wasn’t entitled to. Tells you a lot about her character. I agree with previous poster. Those who lost their jobs because there wasn’t enough money are the real losers. I would bet this is the tip of the iceberg.

So you have your PhD in School Administration? Why didn’t you get a job as a Superintendent then?

Dear N. R.,
The Director of Human Resource in this case does not
have a PhD and is making $60 an hour. Let’s look to
local businesses to see what they pay their HR person. You don’t need a PhD to know when the tax payers are getting taken for a ride. And, honesty has nothing to do with being a Superintendent. Why just look at crooked Micich and they are having her training future Sups. to do as she has done.

This does however say a lot about this HR character in wanting more money and not even offering to pay back what she had been overpaid. I am seriously concerned that the School Board members have not stated anything as to why they decided to give her even more money. They apparently won’t be requesting paying back any overpayments and as a tax payer this is very concerning and alarming.

My plumber charges $60 an hour.

Your plumber does better work.

To answer your question more directly, our school board probably wouldn’t hire Carley as a Superintendent because she/he appears to be an honest person. It’s also called integrity somhow about you go get some.

Libs don’t need no stinking integrity.

If she was overpaid by $10,000 grand why are they not withholding this money from her paychecks? How does one begin to pay back and/or make it right with the people who lost their jobs due to layoffs because we were all told there wasn’t enough money to retain stafff? Now it has come to light the administration lined their own pockets with greed. How can we overturn the extra tax revenue that was voted on? When we find out they are/were stealing tax payers dollars. Lives have been ruined over layoffs because of Micich, Minear, Ramona Jeffrey’s, etc. thicker than thieves the lot. Checks and balances need to be in place. I wished the audit would have been released earlier because I would love to put my hat in the ring for the school board! Press charges over a child taking freaken brownie when administration was stealing major $$$$$$$ from all of us. Makes me vomit!

Jana Arndt, currnet board president, said it made her sick to think about the money that was lost. AND THEN SHE WAS ONE OF THE 5 WHO VOTED FOR THE CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR JODIE ANDERSON!!!
