Many posters were hung in area gas stations and in many other stores around Mason City, asking for people to attend a benefit for Sgt. Kliven. The posters also told of this disease and the level of severity and rapid progression. The posters told of the weeks and months Sgt. Kliven had to be hospitalized and future test that still need to be done. They told of the bills that were and still are being accumulated.
To help with these medical bills, the family and friends of Sgt. Kliven (pictured, right) held that benefit Saturday, October 8th. As a result of the benefit, they raised $3000 that the family is happy to say is a good start at paying on these bills.
They had a delicious heartfelt meal prepared by those who love and support Sgt. Kliven, for only $5 a plate. There was a bake sale, purse exchange, mini carnival, a raffle and a silent auction.
When Sgt. Kliven’s wife, Lindsay, was asked if she thought he’d feel up to doing a video and talking to the people of Mason City she said, “I don’t think so, he really doesn’t like his picture taken since he’s been sick. But ask him, he might.”
When asked, Kliven said with a smile, “Well, I believe I can come up with a few words.” And he did. He wanted everyone to know how much he appreciated everybody’s help and how much it means to him and his family. He wants everybody to know that he wants to get well, so that he can get back to work and support his family. (See Video)
Sgt. Kliven supported each and every one of us while fighting for our freedom. It’s our chance to show him the same respect in the grandest manner possible. Let’s united and support OUR hometown hero and his family.
You can still give, any amount would be appreciated to help with future medical bills:
Monetary donations may be dropped off at North Iowa Community Credit Union in care of “Sgt. Chad Kliven Benefit Fund.”
