June 10, 1951 – April 3, 2026

Nick Capesius, 74, of Bode, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026, at Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joe. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM at the church in St. Joe. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona. Online condolences may be left at http://www.lentzfuneralhome.com.

Nicholas John Capesius, the son of John and Marjorie (Gales) Capesius, was born on June 10, 1951, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Algona, Iowa. He attended school in St. Joe and graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in 1969. Nick went on to farm his whole life and took pride in the many tasks that filled his days on the farm.

Faith was at the heart of everything Nick did. A lifelong member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, he never missed Mass — rain or shine, combining or planting, he was in his pew on Saturday night. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 55 years and generously gave his time helping with Mulligan Stew each year. He also served on the St. Joe Parish Board.

Nick believed in giving back to the community that meant so much to him. Over the years, Nick gave his time to the Bode Coop Board of Directors and the Farm Egg Board of Directors, and was active with the Kossuth County Pork Producers, helping out at promotional grilling events all over the area. He had a wide circle of friends and never passed up the chance to talk shop, whether it was farming, local happenings, or catching up on the latest news.

As the eldest of his siblings, Nick took his role as “Big Brother” very seriously, and his family was very important to him. The yearly family trip to Minnesota was something Nick looked forward to all year long. He had his own boat and he enjoyed fishing. He passed on his love of fishing to his nieces and nephews the best way he knew how — by bringing them along, baiting a line, and sharing the quiet of a day on the lake.

A devoted Bishop Garrigan fan, Nick loved cheering on the Golden Bears, supporting his nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends, and especially enjoyed watching softball. He was one of a kind — a man who treasured his friends and family, spoke his mind, and carried his sense of humor with him all the way to the end.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Margaret (Bob) Muller of Victoria, MN; Bill Capesius of Algona; Bob Capesius of Bode; Chris Capesius of Algona; Barney (Melissa) Capesius of Ankeny; Ann (Curt) Duffield of Humboldt; Katie (Joe) Schmitt of Fort Atkinson; Richard (Diane) Capesius of Algona; and Joe (Brenda) Capesius of Bena, MN; 20 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews; and his good friends Kim Thilges and Mike Berte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie Capesius; his sister, Joan Capesius; and his sister-in-law, Carol Capesius.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Garrigan School and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.
