Linda A. “Skeeter” Garcia, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center. Leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness, Linda is now reunited with her beloved husband of 52 years, Paul, whose memory she has carried close to her heart every day since his passing in 2023. The family made their home in Mason City for over 50 years.
Linda was a woman defined by compassion and quiet strength. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. Whether through a thoughtful conversation or a simple act of kindness, she touched countless lives in meaningful ways.
Above all else, Linda loved her daughter, Alisa Torkelson, and three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Madeline, and Naomi. The Garcia family’s love and support over the years were a lasting and cherished part of her life. She also shared a special bond with her sisters, Maria Callahan and Donna Murphy, whom she loved dearly.
Linda was born on Feb. 17, 1949, and raised in Alpena, Michigan, along with her other six siblings. Her parents, Phil and Josephine (Dragiewicz) Skiba, lovingly raised their large family there. Linda graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1967 before earning her teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University. She found great joy in helping others through her work at 43 North Iowa.
Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. Linda had a special affection for animals, opening her home and heart to many beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. She was known for her warm, welcoming smile — one that brought comfort and joy to those around her, especially her many friends in both Alpena and Mason City.
Faith was an important part of Linda’s life, and she remained an active member in her church community at Grace United Methodist Church, where she found purpose, friendship, and strength. Her compassion, quiet devotion, and willingness to serve others touched many hearts.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St NW, Mason City, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.
