CHARLES CITY – Two people were hurt in a Charles City auto accident and a Riceville man was cited after blowing through a stop sign.
The accident took place on July 7, 2019. At about 1:06 PM that day, officers with the Charles City police department went to the intersection of South Grand Avenue and 11th Street for a two-vehicle accident. Police say a 2002 Chevy S10 truck operated by 81-year-old Benny Goddard of Charles City was traveling southbound on South Grand Avenue when a 2010 Ford Focus operated by 20-year-old Calvin Shirk of Riceville pulled out in front of the Goddard vehicle off of 11th Street. The two vehicles collided at the intersection. The Ford Focus was a total loss and the S10 sustanded about $5000 damage.
The two occupants were transported to the Floyd County Medical Center with minor injuries.
Shirk was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield to the right of way.
