Marlys M. (Schnadt) Reuter, 95, of Sumner, died Friday, May 23, 2025, at Cobblestone Court Assisted Living in Sumner.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 2, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tracy Hinkel presiding. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday June 1, 2025, at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. John Building Improvement Project, SEMS, Sumner Library, or the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department.

Marlys was born on February 17, 1930, in Dayton Township to Bernard (Bert) and Meta (Mundt) Schnadt. She was baptized at home by Rev. Kuhlman at Buck Creek, Iowa. She attended Buck Creek parochial school till 8th grade, Oran schools through 10th grade and graduated from Sumner High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked for Dr. James Whitmire and The First National Bank of Sumner, IA.

On December 10, 1950, she was united in marriage with Steven Reuter. They lived in Elsinore and Oceanside, California while Steve was in the service. Returning to Sumner where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Marlys was very active in the Sumner community. She was a member of the Band Mother’s Club at the High School. She was an active member of WELCA at St. John Lutheran Church. She also hand quilted many quilts for family and friends. She assisted her husband in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. She loved to play cards with family and friends. Her door was always open to anyone who needed a cup of coffee.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Steve of Sumner; children, Janet Castor of Sumner, Ann Reuter-Gressman of Lakeville, Minnesota, Kathryn (Kendall) Reuter-Thu of Sycamore, Illinois; son, Gene (Patty) Reuter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Steven (Ann) Reuter, Brigid Reuter, Madeline Gressman, Nicollet Thu, and Katrina Thu, great-grandchildren, Jack Reuter, Rory Reuter and Brynn Reuter; brother-in-law, James Reuter; and sisters-in-law, Joan Ribbeck and Carol (Robert) Stamp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Gary Castor, sister Esther (Edwin) Westendorf, brother-in-law, Jim Ribbeck; sister-in-law, Mary Reuter; and nephew Doug Ribbeck.
