Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

ST. PAUL – A Minnesota legislator doesn’t think very highly of the gay and lesbian lifestyle.

Striking back at legislation introduced in the Minnesota Legislature this week for marriage equality, state Minnesota Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen said “It’s an unhealthy, sexual addiction.”

According to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Gruenhagen, a Republican, said he has a friend who ran a sexual addiction clinic. “He helped many homosexuals and other people come out of the lifestyle.”

“When we talk about gay marriage, we are not talking about an immutable characteristic, like the color of your skin.” Gruenhagen said.  Referencing a decade- old genome study, he added: “There is no gay gene. The concept that there is a gay gene is an unscientific lie.”

“. And it is not a question of equal rights since they have the same rights has everyone else.”

That sir is incorrect. Under Federal and some state laws, they are not afforded the same exact things married people enjoy. They may not inherit their partner’s property as everyone else does. They do not get the same tax benefits as everyone else does. They are not even allowed Social Security or other types of retirement benefits as married people do.

Is that equal under the law?

“Homosexuals make a choice just like others do.”

I suggest you look at years of scientific research on the subject. Talk to the clinicians who have worked with Gays and Lesbians for years about how their self-identity is some sort of choice, or an excuse. Examine the reasons why the APA has after careful study decided that being a homosexual is not a mental illness or defect of character.

“They should not have special rights just because of that choice”

Explain to us what special rights they expect? That they be treated as equals under the law? You twist words or make up ideas just as they did back in the days before civil rights laws came into effect.

What next? Separate but equal? Yeah, that worked great in the South didn’t it? I can see it now, Homosexuals to the back of the bus, or have their own restrooms, or lunch counters. Yet, that is exactly what you espouse. Warped thinking of equality.

“Ya, you bet cha, lets legalize perversion!

We are in total culture break down. You homo lovers are a real piece of work.”

That kind of thinking is not, repeat, not what is at issue. I am not a homosexual, nor do I personally find that kind of life acceptable.

However, the issue here is if we should treat all human beings equally under the law. Our Constitution says we should, and we must. Case after case proves that point out.

For the sake of argument, what if this Legislator made his comments about blacks, or Jews, or bachelor Norwegian farmers, or Hispanic? That they do not deserve equal treatment under the law? Because he thinks their lifestyle is unhealthy, or unjust, they should be shunned from the rights we all enjoy?

What group would be next? Who becomes the next pariah?

There are people who use Alcohol. There are people who partake of tobacco products. There are people who use illegal drugs. There are people who eat Lutefisk. Do we also suspend their civil rights and due process of law because we do not like what they are doing?

Nay, the wording and meaning is clear, equal under the law. Not your opinion of the law, not your interpretation of the law, but the precedent made by the courts, as it is their constitutional right and jurisdiction.

Society is being brainwashed to accept a perverted lifestyle that totally defies nature. What is odd is how many dumb people there are that actually believe the BS that is being pushed by the lame stream media and Hollywood.

Way to may bleeding heart councilors out there. Come to think of it, way to many bleeding hearts!

The homosexual lobby, Hollywood and someone of our legislators are trying to push homosexuals as normal and a larger percentage of the population than it actually is. It closer to 1-2% rather than the 10% they would like you to believe. And it is not a question of equal rights since they have the same rights has everyone else. Homosexuals make a choice just like others do. They should not have special rights just because of that choice

Homosexuals don’t want special rights or special treatment. They want “equal” rights and treatment. They are “normal”. They put their pants on one leg at a time, they feel love, pain, empathy, sympathy and everything else hetros feel. It’s anti-gays trying to banish them that makes it appear they want special treatment. If you don’t want to be gay. Don’t be. But you’re not God so why try to pretend you are. You no doubt know gays and probably have a few in your family. You just don’t know it because they may not openly express it. To each his own. It’s no skin off your nose if they are is it? It’s the activist gays who are fighting for the rights of others that stand out. Once they begin recieving the same respect as hetros they’ll settle down. It’s their Constitutional right to fight for their rights.

I have council-ed many homosexuals and found addictions drove their decisions to practice homosexual preferences.

Horse hocky. People can have “addiction to sex” but that’s not what “causes homosexuality”. Many young people notice they are homosexual before they are even old enough to have addiction to sex.
And “addictions” are “effects” not “causes.” If you really were a counselor you’d know that to be the case and truth. I’d say you’re a poor excuse for a counselor if you don’t know that fact. Low self worth leads to addictions. Your “patients” may have had low self worth and were easy targets for those who prey on the weak.
Wake up and smell the coffee counselor.

You are not a bigot or homophobe if you don’t buy into the latest push by Hollywood and the Media to make homosexuality normal.

Making same sex unions legal is one thing. However if one looks at history it has been the “acceptance” of homosexuality as a norm that has been a pitfall for prior cultures.

As late as the Third Reich we saw that the social fabric of Germany falling apart help give rise to Hitler.

In a book by Anne Wilson Schaef, “When Society Becomes An Addict” she correctly lays out the destructive path we go down that gives rise to all kinds of beliefs that are sic. Homosexuality is one of them.

The fact that this politician is only stating the obvious should be taken seriously by rational adults.

Sexual addiction is a very serious disorder.

Homosexuality is clearly part of that. When and if it is found that mankind is born with this malady it then can be defined as a birth defect. Until then, it is a mental illness that society must deal with in a sensible way.

Teaching young children it is “normal” amounts to misleading our youth and tempting them with experimentation during their formative years. This again validates Minnesota Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen as unhealthy. I find it abusive to children.

Parents need to guild their children accordingly.

All the name calling going on here is not the answer! Educate yourself!

“The fact that this politician is only stating the obvious should be taken seriously by rational adults.”

Perhaps in your paradigm, he is. However, most of the scientific community disagrees with that view. Evidence shows it is not due to an “addiction”, nor is it a mental illness.

If in the course of your “treating” patients or clients, you impose this view upon them, it is a disservice.

How is being gay an unhealthy, sexual addiction? I know a number of gay people, and many of them are happy, healthy, and are enjoying life to the fullest. If a persons sexual preference is so life altering, why do we have so many hetrosexual people shooting others, using drugs, abusing children, committing suicide? If being straight is an requisite to being healthy, maybe being gay isn’t so bad after all.

You must not know any gay people. If you did, you would know that they have always known they were gay and there was no choice about it. Before there was the amount of acceptance there is now, most would never have chosen to be gay. They would have given anything to be straight because their lives would have been so much easier. And it’s not “sick”. It’s a variation of normal. When something like 9% of the population engages in homosexual behavior, that’s just as normal as being left-handed. They used to try to get kids to not be left-handed, either, because they thought that was “sick”. It turns out that left-handed people are often extremely gifted and talented, same as homosexuals.

Besides, the question is not if being gay is:

    1.) Natural
    2.) Genetic
    3.) A mental illness
    4.) Fill in the blank

The question is constitutional. It has to do with equal treatment under the law.

I disagree that there is not a scientific basis for homosexuality and gender identity issues. There is a lot of scientific evidence in the human world and anecdotal evidence in the animal world that hormonal exposure in the womb can influence the sexuality.

@anymouthy-don’t you worry about me. I’m doing just fine. You really need to worry about yourself as you don’t do anything except try to sneak up on people that are on here and try to be smart. You really show your lack of intelligence.

@Anonymous: Do you have anything better to do but pick on people who enjoy posting on here? Some people can’t get out as easily as others and their computer is the link to the world. This is entertainment for some. LVS is likely pretty housebound being in a wheelchair. This is how he has conversations. BACK OFF.

I am always amazed at the crassness of some people. I was reared in a bubble where, until I was in my 20’s, I thought everyone in the world was polite and moral except for one bully. It has never ceased to shock me how truly nasty and hurtful people can be, just for the sake of being that way. This site sure takes the civilized out of civilization.

I think it’s admirable and quite sweet, really, to stick up for LVS, Back Off. But you might want to consider who you’re defending.

Although we have reached a truce, LVS is very good at being very, very uncivilized, as is evidenced by his “making it easy to be gay” hateful statement.

Sometimes people deserve the criticism they get.

BULL! LVS is the most insulting regular here. He/she constantly answers other people’s posts with insults . If you offer a different view he/she gets nasty. Being housebound is no excuse to be a jerk. And a wheelchair is not reason to be housebound. I know people in wh chrs that go all over the place. The last thinjg a person in a wh chr. needs is self pitty and an enabler giving pity to them. No excuse to be a jerk. LVS can dish it out but not take it.

@memyself-who the hell asked your opinion. What do you know about being in a wheelchair or anything else about me. I never asked for your damn pity and I do just fine all on my own. Don’t even pretend to have walked in my shoes or have gone through what I have. You are certainly not qualified. You like to attack people you don’t even know and that makes you a jerk in my opinion. Sickastupid I understand. She is programmed to be the way she is and can’t help it although she would certainly never admit it. She likes to talk about other people but needs to go back and read her own post and see just how bad she really is. Just like her unwarranted attack calling me uncivilized.I have never attacked anyone who didn’t attack me first but I will be damned if I will let you attack me and get away with it. Bring in on jerk off and see.

Oh, that’s nice. You think it’s better to make it hard for people to live their lives?

You want to make things worse for particular groups for what reason? What if you’re in the group? You want somebody to make YOUR life harder just for fun?

@sicka-who said anything about doing anything just for fun. Anyone who says that being Gay is normal needs more help than I can give them. They should at least try to be normal. I really think they are taking the easy way out as it is damn stressful living with a woman all your life.

Define “normal”, LVS. And it can’t be just what you THINK. Please provide a source for your answer.

@sicka-sure it can be what I think. It is called an opinion. Whether you agree or not doesn’t matter. You are entitled to your opinion as well. It is easy to do the P.C. thing, but not so easy to say what you really believe.

Well then, if normal is whatever you want it to be, gay is normal for some. Who are YOU to think you can make their life harder?

The explains LVS’s whole approach to life. His whole intention is making life difficult for others he doesn’t like. This is why Mason City took a sharp dive the last census, because of guys like this. Nobody likes living with people like this except other people like this.

LVS I can’t believe you said “I think we just make it to easy for them to be gay”. Just what do we do to make their lifestyle so easy? I have a gay nephew and I know 5 lesbians. I know for a fact life is anything but easy for them. Anyone that thinks that people choose to be gay or lesbian doesn’t know a thing about it. No one would choose that life style for themselves. I don’t know if you are married or not but imagine how hard it would be to go through life afraid to let people know that your wife is the love of your life or being able to make life or death choices for them when that time comes. Not being able to get the same benifits that heterosexual couples enjoy.

Your comment “They should at least try to be normal. I really think they are taking the easy way out as it is damn stressful living with a woman all your life” is as bigoted a statement as I have ever read on here.

Seriously…is it any skin off your nose if someone is gay? It won’t effect your life one iota. So why do you give a rats? You’re not God. They don’t answer to you. They feel fine being who they are. (until bozos try to mock it) They’re not asking you to sleep with them. They’re happy not tewlling you how to live your life not trying to convert you. So what do you care?

Medically he is correct. It is sad so many people have been brainwashed into believing homosexuality is normal.

There is nothing bigoted about the truth.

I have personally worked in the field of sexual addiction and people become so overcome with lust to the point where they get all of their self esteem from the pursuit of a homosexual lifestyle.

Don’t forget, if people could be born with this affliction it would be called a birth defect.
