Mary Ellen Cullen, age 74, of Osage, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa. Mary was born on November 17, 1950, in Osage, the daughter of Howard and Verna (Puckett) Thoresen. Mary graduated from Osage High School in 1970. In May 1974 she was united in marriage to Richard Cullen, and from this union they had two children: Carol and Joe. They later divorced. Mary was a proud member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 4-H as a youth, Osage Snappy Clippers, and the Women’s Circle at Our Savior’s Church. She worked at Maple Manor in Osage, and the Treasure Chest in Charles City for many years.
Some of Mary’s favorite things to do were to take scenic drives with her family, listen to country music, play Yahtzee and Rummy, reading garden and home magazines, and attending Stebens Children’s Theater Productions. Some of the places Mary lived were Osage (1950-1974), Mitchell (1974-1986), Osage (1986-2025) which includes Apple Valley (2009-2023), and Faith Lutheran Home (2023-2025). She will be deeply missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Carol (James) Dreier of Osage, Iowa, Joe Cullen of Charles City Iowa; grandchildren; Cheyenne, Cherokee and great-granddaughter, Raidyn; step grandchildren, Harley, Lance, Ayla, Keagan, Cheyanne; step great-grandchildren, Ellison, and Brynley; siblings, Ann (Rodney) McKinney of Aredale, Iowa, Luther (Paula) Thoresen of Grundy Center, Iowa, David (Mary) Thoresen of Lake Wales, Florida, Ruth (Phil) Ward of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Paul (Chris) Thoresen of Minneapolis, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Richard Cullen and many relatives.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Osage Cemetery.
