Iowa DNR to begin stocking walleye into Iowa lakes this week

10.7″ walleye from Rathbun Fish Hatchery near Centerville, Iowa.  This fish hatched on April 17th, 2012.  “Fish like these are the result of 20+ years of continuous improvement in Iowa’s walleye culture program,” the DNR said.

The Iowa DNR announced today that it will begin stocking Iowa lakes with walleye this week.

The walleye are from the Rathbun Fish Hatchery, which is located 7 miles north of Centerville, Iowa.  The Rathbun Fish Hatchery is an intensive warm water fish hatchery. Channel catfish and walleye are the primary fish species raised at the hatchery.

The DNR said that 160,000 walleye will be let loose all across the state.
