Iowa police searching for burglary suspect toting crowbar, pry tools

MANCHESTER, IOWA - After a Northern Iowa liquor store was burglarized, police have narrowed their search to a roaming suspect they say is armed with a crowbar and pry tools and may be victimizing businesses across the state.

MANCHESTER, IOWA – After a Northern Iowa liquor store was burglarized, police have narrowed their search to a roaming suspect they say is armed with a crowbar and pry tools and may be victimizing businesses across the state.

On December 31, 2024, shortly before 1:00 AM, the Cork N’ Bottle liquor store was burglarized by two unknown suspects with a crowbar and pry tools. Both suspects used various means to conceal their identity. Petty cash and cigarettes were taken. Utilizing Law Enforcement Intelligence Network and other investigative means, several other businesses across Iowa were burglarized in the same manner and possible matching suspects.

On January 16, 2025, Manchester Police and many other agencies assisted Tama County Sheriff’s Office in executing two search warrants simultaneously in Marshalltown, Iowa. Two homes and vehicles were included. One of which was a green 2003 Chevy Silverado. That model truck with specific identifiers was captured on a surveillance video near burglaries in Ryan, Manchester, and Luxemburg.

In the glovebox of the Marshalltown Operation, yielded a transaction receipt to Manchester’s Kwik Star. It logs about one hour before the break-in; $20.00 of gasoline was pumped. The passenger in the same green Silverado entered Kwik Star, paying in cash. Before leaving, two phone numbers were provided to obtain reward points. The passenger, identified as 65-year-old Kevin Young of Cedar Rapids, was identified wearing the same clothing an hour later inside the liquor store, except for a face mask.

Young (pictured at top) has warrants for his arrest comprising of burglary and possession of burglar’s tools and is currently at large. This investigation is ongoing and may yield other charges. Any information of Young’s whereabouts, please contact your local authorities.
