William “Bill” Brown Jr, 78 of Algona, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at his home. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona. Online condolences may be left at http://www.lentzfuneralhome.com
William Robert Brown Jr., son of Marie Mickelson, was born November 18, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. Bill graduated from Rembrand Consolidated Schools, class of 1965. During his working career he was employed at Hy-Vee in Algona in the meat department. On December 2, 1988, Bill was united in marriage to Jeanne (Ewen) Mertz in Algona.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife Jeanne, taking walks with their dog Lilly and spending time with family and friends. They both enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s school activities. Bill also enjoyed playing cards and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes (especially during football season).
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife of 36 years, Jeanne of Algona, sons Anthony R (Heather) Brown of Florida, Jay R (Dawn) Brown of Wall Lake, IA and stepchildren, Matt Mertz of New Mexico and Katie Mertz of Colorado, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Brothers Stephan J (Sharon) Mickelson of Storm Lake, and Brian J. (Yong Suk) Mickelson of Washington, 1 niece and 2 nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother Marie Mickelson, Father and Mother in law Walter and Marie Ewen and niece Brooke Mickelson.
