OPINION: Mason City man says multi-million dollar “sports complex” couldn’t turn Riverhawks into winners

"I am sorry the girls' and boys' basketball teams got beat in substate. I am sure they are great kids and all a bunch of winners."

I am sorry the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams got beat in substate. I am sure they are great kids and all a bunch of winners. It takes more than a twenty some million-dollar sports complex to turn your sports program around. For a project that big there should have been a taxpayer district wide vote. Trying to rent the complex out for money is not what a school district is supposed to do. It takes time and resources away from what schools are supposed to do. Property tax and sales tax are regressive taxes. It hurts the poor and the elderly.
