Mason City resident, who had murder-related charge dropped, sentenced for driving while barred

MASON CITY – Wednesday in Cerro Gordo County District Court, Donya Marie Lee, age 46, of 809 North Federal Avenue, Mason City, was sentenced to 45 days in jail following a guilty plea to driving while barred habitual offender five days before a trial was scheduled.

Donya Lee had already been in the Cerro Gordo County Jail since October 2nd after turning herself in on a warrant for failure to appear to court proceedings in a felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver charge. She was charged with that offense following an investigation by the North Iowa Task Force who accuses her of possessing crack cocaine with intent to deliver.

Donya Lee had previously been released to the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections pending a trial set for November 1st at 1:30 p.m. in Cerro Gordo County District Court in the drug case. On October 3rd Judge James Drew revoked her pretrial release following a pretrial release violation report coupled with the failure to appear to court proceedings.

Donya Lee had been out on pretrial release on the drug charge when she was charged with accessory after the fact in the shooting death of Brandon Crawford at Casey’s General Store, 813 N. Federal Avenue on August 9th, 2011. On August 26th the charge of accessory after the fact was dropped, according to court records, in the “interest of justice.”
