MASON CITY – COVID-19 is surging in the North Iowa area and perhaps elsewhere, and the local health department is warning citizens to take precautions.
“We are seeing a large rise in COVID-19, RSV, and influenza cases in our community,” The Cerro Gordo county health department said in a statement this morning. “While we look into the situation, your actions can really help reduce the spread of these illnesses.”
The Cerro Gordo county health department would like everyone to make sure to follow these protective actions:
– Stay home when sick: This simple action has a major impact. If you experience symptoms, stay away from others, and seek medical attention as needed. Return to normal activity when you no longer have a fever without taking fever-reducing medications for 24 hours.
– Practice good Cleanliness: Regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying away from those who are sick are necessary for stopping the spread of germs.
– Get vaccinated: Vaccination remains the best defense against getting really sick from COVID-19, RSV, and the flu. If eligible, ensure you are up to date on all recommended vaccinations.
“By taking these steps together, we can protect ourselves and our community during this winter bug season,” the health department continued. “When we work together, we all have a happier and healthier winter.”
