Michael Ray Ohm of Coulter, Iowa, born in Guthrie Center, Iowa on April 4, 1957, passed away with family by his side on July 22, 2023. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Yale Community Building, 206 N Main St, Yale, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family of Michael Ohm.
Mike was the first-born child to George and Beverly Ohm from Yale, IA. He married Paula Fulkerson on September 24, 2011, in Boone, Iowa.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, George R. Ohm on Sept 1, 2022; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Irene Ohm; and maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Pauline Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; mother, Beverly; stepchildren, Brett (Dana), Amy (Josh), Megan (Brandon) and Nicole (Jacob); grandchildren, Brylee, Wesley, Ryker, Brody, Hunter, Dawson, Kaylee and Hanna; siblings, including twins, Dennis (Susan) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Daniel (Cathy) of Jamaica, Iowa and Patrick (Diane) of Mesa, Arizona; and sisters, Cheryl (Nick) of Jefferson, Iowa and Christie (Rod) of Yale, Iowa. Mike had numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated with the class of 1975 from Yale-Jamaica-Bagley School District where he participated in track, football, and basketball. He also enjoyed boxing with his brothers and father as his coach in the AAU Sanction. Following graduation, he worked for a tile and drainage company in Ogden, Iowa. He next worked as an operator on an oil rig in Colby, Kansas. Longing for home, he switched jobs to the Farm Services (FS) in Perry, Iowa. Mike was hired by Alliant Energy in Ames in 1995 as a merchandise handler, working his way up to yard manager until his retirement in 2017. Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Iowa Hawkeyes and trapping with his father throughout his years. He so dearly cherished his time with his family and was always there for all of them: wife, step children, grandkids, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews –“Mike always had our backs”. He also loved his doggies, past and present all held a special place in his heart. His buddy Cooper was always by his side and loved his human.
We will truly miss Mike’s unspoken showing of generosity, kindness, and love for all his family, especially for his grandkids and nieces and nephews. He was so kind he was once seen helping a squirrel. He would give and do anything for his family and close friends.
