BURLINGTON, IOWA – A suspect is behind bars after he allegedly fired his gun into a crowd of people at an Iowa tavern, sending one to a hospital.

Just before 2:00am on July 23, 2023, officers were sent to Doc’s Tavern, 1622 Aetna, after gunshots were fired there. Tavern patrons told officers Tyler Underwood (pictured, above) had been at the tavern and, upon leaving at closing time, fired shots into a crowd. Officers were told Underwood left the area on foot.

Officers located Underwood a few blocks away from the tavern. He was not in possession of a gun and was arrested for public intoxication.

A short while later, officers were told a male arrived at the hospital in Fort Madison with a gunshot wound to his shin saying it happened at Doc’s.

Underwood, 33, was then additionally charged with willful injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault, reckless use of a firearm, and intimidation with a firearm.
