Iowa man arrested after allegedly attempting to burn his home down with a teen and pet inside

Burned house in Conrad, Iowa, claimed a pet's life

CONRAD, IOWA – An Iowa man was arrested after allegedly attempting to burn his home down with a teen and pet inside.

On August 16, 2022, at approximately 11:17 PM, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office was called 108 Washington Street in Conrad for a report of a house fire, with a teenage girl still in the home. Upon arrival to the scene deputies learned that there was no one in the home other than a family pet. The home was a total loss and the family’s pet perished in the fire.

As a result, into the investigation into the fire. Jacob Switzer 45 of 108 Washington St Conrad, Iowa was arrested for Arson in the 1st degree a Class B felony. Switzer was transported to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital and later booked into the Grundy Jail where he remains in custody with a $50,000 dollar bond.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Conrad Fire, Beaman Fire, Grundy Center Fire, BCerts, Marshalltown Ambulance and Grundy County Emergency Management.
