Iowa man arrested weeks after drunken car crash that took woman’s life

logo-iowa-state-patrolDELAWARE COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa man who crashed a large pickup with five passengers inside – taking the life of a young woman – after he allegedly consumed alcohol has been arrested and charged with a felony.

Dean Dempster III, age 23, was operating a 2006 Ford F250 on County Road D22/210th Street, east of Earlville, Iowa, on December 21, 2013 at about 2:09 AM. There were five passengers inside his vehicle. Dempster is alleged to have consumed several mixed drinks and beer at a number of Delaware County bars prior to embarking on a journey in his truck with the five passengers. As he drove his truck, Dempster lost control, crossed the center line and entered the south ditch. The vehicle rolled onto the passenger side where it came to rest.

Dempster III and four other persons were injured and taken to area hospitals. Those injured were: Ryan Michael Fischer, age 22 of Manchester; Holly Jo Hoeger, age 22 of Earlville; Amber Lynn Fischer, age 24 of Manchester; Dyman Thomas Flattery, age 22 of Manchester.

Brittany Marie Honkomp, age 23 of Dyersville, was killed in the accident.

Dempster III was arrested on Friday, January 10, 2014, for Homicide by Vehicle and is being held in the Delaware County Jail under $500,000.00 Bond.
