KELLOGG, IOWA – An Iowa man was arrested after a small town house was set on fire.
On Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, at approximately12:35, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a structure fire at 304 East St in Kellogg. Kellogg Fire and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded. Upon arrival, Kellogg Fire requested additional assistance. Sully Fire Department, Newton Fire Department, Gilman Fire Department and Reasnor Fire Department all responded. The Iowa State Patrol also assisted with traffic control.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and determine that no one was inside the residence. The resident was later located and during the initial investigation, the cause and origin of the fire was determined to be suspicious.
Kellogg Fire members, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Arson Investigator, and the State Fire Marshall continued to investigate. As the investigation progressed, a subject was located and later arrested.
Edward Jacob Wheeler, age 39, of Newton, was charged with Arson 2nd, a Class C felony and Burglary 2nd, a Class C felony. Wheeler was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
Investigation continues and no further information is available at this time.
