ANKENY – A driver showing off for his passenger, rocketing his vehicle at 130 miles per hour through Iowa on Saturday, was taken to jail by an alert, diligent trooper.

Iowa State Trooper Pilot Christensen checked a driver traveling at 130 miles per hour on I-35 near Ankeny on Saturday, the law enforcement agency reported.

“The driver claimed they were ‘showing off their new car to the passenger.’ Hopefully, the passenger is able to drive the new car home, as the driver is now on their way to JAIL.”

I-35 north of Ankeny is under heavy construction as a third lane is added to the heavily-travelled roadway, in both directions.

Speeding is a great way to get a ticket, get in an accident – or worse. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 150 people have been killed so far in 2024 on Iowa roadways.
