AMES – An Iowa man was busted with marijuana, methamphetamine, LSD, Xanax, heroin and over $600 cash in an Ames pursuit this week.
On Wednesday, Jan. 13, Iowa State University police officers observed a vehicle traveling westbound near the intersection of Storm St. and Hayward Ave. with an equipment violation. This vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Storm St. and Hayward Ave. and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Jordan Simmonds of Boone, Iowa, did not immediately pull over and struck another vehicle on the roadway causing the vehicle he was driving to come to a stop. When Simmonds exited, he admitted to having controlled substances in the vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
Officers recovered one-third pound of marijuana, methamphetamine, LSD, Xanax, heroin and over $600 cash from the vehicle Simmonds was driving. A drug recognition expert was called in to investigate impairment of Simmonds.
Simmonds was arrested on charges of: operating while intoxicated-2nd offense, possession of a controlled substance-2nd offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (marijuana), drug tax stamp violation, possession of a controlled substance (LSD), unlawful possession of prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, eluding, reckless driving, failure to obey stop sign, failure to provide proof of financial liability- accident.
A review of the pursuit will be conducted per departmental policy.
