WATERLOO – A Waterloo woman who allegedly stabbed her own mother to death and is behind bars facing first-degree murder charges says she’s not guilty and now awaits trial.

On May 21, 2023, at approximately 8:04 PM, Waterloo Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to 217-D Fereday Court on a report of female unresponsive. Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived and began performing life saving measures. During this time, it was observed that the female had several knife wounds. The female was transported by Waterloo Fire Rescue to Allen Hospital. The female victim later died because of her injuries. The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Roberta Nagy of Waterloo. Nagy’s death has been ruled a homicide.  Reportedly, court records show Brown claims the victim stabbed herself in the throat before putting a cell phone charging cord around her own neck.

Detectives with the Waterloo Police Department charged 33 -year-old Sarah Nagy Brown (pictured above) of Waterloo with first-degree murder. Brown was appointed a public defender and entered a not-guilty plea on June 15. Brown will face a pretrial conference on September 25 and a possible jury trial on October 10.

Records show Brown is no stranger to drama. Back in May of 2018, Waterloo police were called to 107 Reed St. regarding an abducted child. The father of the child advised that the biological mother, Sarah Nagy Brown had taken the child without permission, the father also indicated Brown may be under the influence of methamphetamine.  An AMBER alert was then broadcast.  Brown returned to the residence with the child and AMBER alert was cancelled and the baby appeared to be in good condition.
