MASON CITY – NIACC’s multi-million dollar STEM Education Center is still under construction but should be ready this year.
Back on May 11, 2017, NIACC broke ground on a new STEM Education Center. According to architect Bergland & Cram, the center will provide additional, improved space for STEM programs by providing better lab layouts, student/staff interaction areas, and new STEM Sandbox Classroom and up to 7 science labs. The new structure is a 15,000 square foot addition to McAllister Hall, with a total of 38,000 of new construction and remodel. Math and Science areas will be remodeled.
General contractor Henkel Construction says a May 1 completion date is set for the current phase of work. Henkel said in a statement that a “chemistry lab, biology room, suspended lighting in the Learning Center, public restroom, and the exterior and interior aluminum wall panels as well as other areas” are being worked on now.
As NIACC celebrates its 100th year of existence, a grand opening for the new STEM Center is planned to mark that anniversary, Bergland & Cram said in a statement. No final date was announced.
The project may cost as much as $10 million.
