Mackenzie Meyer’s 13-point effort not enough as Minnesota bounces Iowa from Big Ten Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – Former Mason City Mohawk Mackenzie Meyer’s 13-point effort was not enough as Minnesota bounced Iowa from Big Ten Tournament Friday, 90-89.

Meyer netted 13 points and 6 assists, along with 4 rebounds and a block in 34 minutes of game action.

Iowa Junior Megan Gustafson netted a career-high 48 points on 19-of-26 shooting from the field. The points and field goals made are both school and Big Ten Tournament records. Crystal Smith set the previous school record of 46 on Nov. 22, 2005. Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State) set the previous Big Ten Tournament record of 43 on March 4, 2016. Gustafson scored 23 points in the first half — the most points in a half in her career.
Gustafson registered her 27th double-double of the season with 48 points and 15 rebounds. It is the 54th double-double of her career.

Iowa, after trailing at the half, built a 5 point lead in the fourth quarter, but Minnesota caught up and built its own 12 point lead. The lead changed 10 times in the game.

Iowa now awaits a possible seed in the NCAA Tournament.
