MASON CITY – A Mason City man, possibly fueled by booze, was jailed after an alleged burglary attempt this weekend.
Mason City police were dispatched to the 100 block of South Jefferson Avenue on Saturday, July 1 at about 4:32 PM for a suspicious subject. There, they encountered 37-year-old Robert Joshua Jones of Mason City. Officers determined Jones was aggravatingly intoxicated. Further investigation led to two charges of third-degree burglary being brought against Jones.
Jones was arrested and taken to the county jail, where he remains held at this time on $4,000 cash-only bond. He awaits a July 7 court date.
Back in 2011, Jones was accused by the Mason City police department of felony B first-degree burglary and using a knife while committing the crime. In typical Cerro Gordo county justice, the burglary charge was dropped, he was guilty of the knife crime, and was put on probation and sent to the Beje Clark halfway house for 180 days. He was guilty of attempted burglary in Mason City back in 2001.
Last November, Jones stiffed a local bar/restaurant on a meal and drink bill by fleeing the establishment without paying. He was later guilty of fifth-degree theft for his crime.
