NEW HAMPTON – Numerous authorities made sure a Northern Iowa dad who tried to visit his kids at a school in violation of a protective order was arrested.
On September 11, 2024, at approximately 12:22 PM, the Chickasaw County Communications Center received a 911 call from the New Hampton Elementary School. The reporting party reported that a male identified as Cornwell, Wesley Almon had made contact with his minor children on school grounds. School staff was aware that Cornwell is a respondent in an active protective order which includes his minor children. School staff took immediate action per the schools’ policies for the safety of the students and staff. Officers, Deputies and Troopers were dispatched to the area and began an investigation and search for Cornwell.
At approximately 2:08 PM, Cornwell was taken into custody without incident and placed under arrest by the New Hampton Police Department. Cornwell was charged under Iowa Code 6641.7 Violation of no-contact or protective order.
The agencies involved in the investigation include New Hampton Police Department, Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and the New Hampton Community Schools. The public’s assistance was greatly appreciated during this investigation.
