DES MOINES – Cops in Iowa’s Capitol City had enough of the drug dealers and converged on their parks, nabbing a trove of dangerous illegal drugs, guns and suspects.

“The award winning parks in our city are for kids, families, and fun. Not drug dealers,” Des Moines police proclaimed Saturday morning.

“Recently, an investigation was initiated in response to concerns about ongoing drug activity, and the dangers that follow, invading one of our parks. Yesterday, detectives and patrol officers teamed up to intervene. That swift, professional action produced results:

• 8 persons arrested on a variety of drug and weapons charges, including Felon In Possession Of A Firearm and felony drug charges.

• 3 illegally possessed handguns seized.

• Distribution level quantities of marijuana, fentanyl pills, and ecstasy pills seized.

“Preserving the safety of the public spaces in our neighborhoods is, and always will be, a priority.”

Cops even had to go into a river to snatch illegal drugs the dealers allegedly tossed in order to tray and evade capture.
