ROCKWELL – A train derailment has been reported today in rural Cerro Gordo county.
The incident took place around 1 PM near 180th Street and 190th Street outside Rockwell earlier Thursday. Sources connected to the Union Pacific Railroad tell NIT 25-36 cars de-railed at a location about 5 miles south of Mason City near the Burchinal blacktop. Possible poisonous substances may be leaking – NIT is told liquid petroleum.
Clean-up crews were still on the scene after 5:30 PM working on the problem.
