Britt hospital welcomes new doctor

BRITT – Hancock County Health System (HCHS) is welcoming Vara Ponnada, M.D. to their medical staff, its Facebook page stated Thursday.

Dr. Ponnada comes to North Iowa from Far Rockaway, New York where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. She was the Resident Medical Officer at Cornwall Regional Hospital and the Medical Officer at Living Waters Medical Centre both in Montego Bay, Jamaica; as well as a member of a research team for the Cardiology Department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Ponnada’s Medical Degree is from Kurnool Medical College in India and she is a member of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Ponnada will provide treatment and care for patients through the Britt Medical Clinic, as well as serve as a Hospitalist on the inpatient unit at Hancock County Memorial Hospital. She is fluent in three languages: English, Hindi and Telugu; is an accomplished culinarian; enjoys ecology and horticulture; and is interested in ancient eastern literature. She lives in Clear Lake with her husband, ViJaya, and their son, Sam, who will be starting school this fall in Clear Lake. Daughter, Sri attends college at New York University.
