Law enforcement warns of another phone scam

EMMETSBURG – Law enforcement in Palo A lot county are warning of the latest phone scam, this time involving a caller claiming his intended victim won a bog prize.

On Thursday, February 9, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a phone scam currently happening in Palo Alto County. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office warned citizens Friday of this scam to prevent further incidences.

A male subject has phoned residents in Palo Alto County, claiming to be from the Publishers Clearing House from out of state and notifying the recipient of the phone call that they have won a large amount of money. The man then contacts the recipient within a couple of days from the initial phone call and states that he has reached Iowa but needs a certain amount of money in order to make it to the address of the recipient. The man asks for a wire transfer of money from the recipient’s bank. This has been identified as a scam and citizens are asked to stay vigilant when receiving phone calls such as this.
