NORA SPRINGS – Nora Springs will be holding their First Annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, from 5:00 pm to 7 pm.
This is for people who live in the country and never get to hand candy out or for businesses if they want to participate.
A friend suggested the Trunk or Treat idea to Jackie Berg, a Girl Scout Leader in Nora Springs, who was looking for ways to raise money for her troop. “As it turned out, the idea snowballed and turned into an event for the town,” said Jackie.
People are asked to decorate their car trunks or set up a table and hand out goodies to the children trick or treating. Use your imaginations and dress in your best costumes. There will be face painting, pumpkin bowling and music.
“I think it’s a neat idea for the community,” says Danielle McMurray, a Nora Springs resident. “It’s a way for people who live in the country, who don’t get trick or treaters to have fun on Halloween too.”
The fun will be held at the North side of the Fire Barn.
“I am hoping that we will be able to have this every year, that more people hear about it and will come.” said Jackie. “I hope this turns into a huge thing in town.”
The pumpkins are being donated for the pumpkin bowling by Kelly’s Greenhouse. If you have any questions or want to reserve a space, you can call Jackie Berg at 641-512-1827.
But if I’m understanding this correctly, I think this is a horrible idea! If it means people who don’t live in town are going to decorate the trunks of their cars and park in town and give away candy from their cars . . . to attract kids to their cars?
Seriously? Have you consulted with law enforcement to see if they think it’s a good idea for keeping kids safe?
Maybe I am understanding the article wrong – I hope I am. But to teach kids to approach strangers vehicles for candy??? I must be understanding it.
I must be “mis-understanding” it!
Thanks for the article, it was fantastic!!!
