Charles City man accused of possessing child porn sent to prison

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man entered a guilty plea in a child porn case and has been sent to prison.

The Charles City police department executed a search warrant on May 27 at a residence in the 300 block of 10th Avenue. The officers were there for hours conducting the search and seized multiple items from both the house and garage. Through the investigation, Jeffrey Kirk, age 53 of Charles City, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with 7 counts of aggravated misdemeanor possessing a depiction or photo of a minor in a sex act, otherwise known as child pornography. He later posted bond and was released from jail, and after a not-guilty plea, a jury trial was set for August 11.

However, a plea change hearing was scheduled for September 20 after motion was made by his public defender to change his not guilty plea. At that hearing he entered a guilty plea to one count of possessing a depiction or photo of a minor in a sex act.

Kirk was sentenced to 2 years in prison with credit for time served and has already been shipped to Oakdale prison for processing. He must pay $754.00 in court costs and fees. He’ll be on the state’s sex offender list, too.
