Mason City man arrested for choking a woman

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was taken to jail after allegedly attempting to choke a woman.

Mason City police tell NIT that Daniel Aaron Brunning, age 27 of Mason City, is accused of intentionally trying to restrict the airway of a known female acquaintance on July 7, 2016 in Mason City. Brunning was arrested on that day for Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury. He was taken to jail and released the next day on a promise to appear for an arraignment hearing that was scheduled for August 2.

However, Brunning failed to appear in court, leading to an arrest warrant issued that day. Police were searching for Brunning since then, and finally caught up with him on the evening of September 10 as they investigated a complaint of a drunk subject near Third Street and North Federal. They located Brunning nearby and arrested him on the outstanding warrant for his alleged choking crime, now upgraded to willful injury causing bodily injury.

Running remains jailed on $2,000 cash bond as he awaits a new court date.
