DES MOINES – Three North Iowa Democrats were recognized this weekend in Des Moines by the Iowa Democratic Party at the 2016 Hall of Fame celebration.
North Iowans receiving awards on Friday at the celebration included:
- Minette Doderer Award for Outstanding Leadership: Rep. Sharon Steckman (Mason City, Iowa)
- Dixon Terry Award for Outstanding Democratic Party Activist: Chair of the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding Committee, Randy Black (Mason City, Iowa)
- Bob Creech Award for Outstanding Democratic Party Chair: Howard County Chair, Laura Hubka (Riceville, Iowa)
“We are excited to recognize the service and dedication of several North Iowans during our 2016 Hall of Fame celebration,” IDP Chair Dr. Andy McGuire said. “As an Assistant Democratic Leader in the Iowa House, Rep. Steckman has been a vocal advocate for our public schools and our environment. When the legislature is not in session, Rep. Steckman helps to make Mason City a better community through her volunteer efforts and commitment to public service. She motivates others through her hard work and dedication to making Iowa a better place to live.”
“Randy Black and Laura Hubka have worked to grow and strengthen their respective county parties in Cerro Gordo and Howard counties,” McGuire added. “Randy Black works tirelessly year in and year out as an organizer of the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding, one of Iowa’s premiere fundraising events. Laura Hubka has reinvigorated Democrats in rural Iowa by serving as a leader and recruiter of Democrats in Howard County. Local leaders are the backbone of the Democratic Party, and we are thrilled to honor their efforts.”
The Hall of Fame Celebration took place on the evening of June 17, 2016 at the Iowa Events Center, Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines.
