Ciudad Juárez, MEXICO – “People who build walls are not Christians.”

These were the words of Pope Francis in reference to GOP-frontrunner Donald Trump as he headed back to Europe from Mexico, where he had prayed for and with thousands of Mexicans near the US-Mexican border.

The Pope – who lives inside a giant wall at the Vatican, surrounded by guards, said “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” Pope Francis’ statement was in response to a question from a reporter about Trump’s tough stance on immigration from Mexico and his proposal to force that country to build a border wall.

“Thank you to Mexico and to all Mexicans. May the Lord and the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe accompany you always,” Francis said as he left Mexico Wednesday. “I have felt welcomed and received with affection and hope by the Mexican people. Thank you for opening the doors to your lives.”

Donald J. Trump released the following statement in response to the Pope’s comments:

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians. The Mexican government and its leadership has made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States, both on trade and at the border, and they understand I am totally wise to them. The Pope only heard one side of the story – he didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. He doesn’t see how Mexican leadership is outsmarting President Obama and our leadership in every aspect of negotiation.

For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.

I read an article that the Vatican borrowed/gave money to hitlers war effort. One way to get rid of the jewish religion and maybe Don.

When it comes to Pope vs. Trump, do you take the side of the guy who wears that ridiculous thing on his head or the Pope?

Why is there a wall around vatican city?

To keep Trump out !!!

The Pope needs to stay out of our politics. The old liberal isn’t qualified to talk about us. He is being played by Mexico.

Agree that the old pope needs to keep his nose out of politics. Same goes for Cruz and Maro, always talking about Jebus. Their rallies are like a pentecostal prayer meeting. Cruz had a come to Jebus meeting here in Mason City…… complete with a prayer and altar call.

I don’t agree with religion of any kind in our politics. I understand it is a draw to some people but do not understand how you can be impartial and still favor one religion over another.

Me thinks there is a wall around the Vatican! People who live in glass houses…….
