Sheffield woman dies in crash on Highway 65

stop-signHAMPTON, IOWA – A tragic auto accident took the life of a Sheffield woman Tuesday evening.

The accident took place around 6:43 PM Tuesday evening on Highway 65 near county road C25 in Franklin county. A Georgia man, 58-year-old Antonio Marecheau was driving a truck east on C25 when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection at Highway 65. Penny Rust, age 37 of Sheffield, was driving south on Highway 65 and encountered the truck in the roadway. Her 1990 Chevy van struck the semi truck in the side of the tractor trailer.

logo-iowa-state-patrolAntonio Marecheau was injured and taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. Penny Rust did not survive the crash.

Franklin county sheriff, fire and emergency responders assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
