RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A two-vehicle accident was reported Saturday morning in rural Cerro Gordo county on Interstate 35 and claimed two lives.
According to information sent to NIT, the accident was north of Thornton in the northbound lanes at mile marker 182 and involved a semi-truck with a trailer and a car. The truck was on its side and the car was severely damaged.
Later Saturday, a report from the Iowa State Patrol said a 2005 KIA PC and a 2015 Freightliner semi were involved in the crash. The accident happened at 10:59 AM when the KIA was traveling southbound and entered the median and then the northbound lanes of the Interstate and struck the semi, which was driven by 4-year=old Micgael Browning if Jackson, Tennessee. The semi entered the median and rolled onto its side, while the KIA came to rest in the left lane of the northbound lanes.
Two females who were in the KIA were pronounced dead at the scene. They were later identified as 19-year-old Tiffany Swenson of Ramsey, Minnesota and 30-year-old Tara Lynn Nevins of Fridley, Minnesota.
