MASON CITY – A former Charles City man now living in Spencer was arrested there on a warrant connected to a fraud and theft case in the Mason City area.
Brighton Lee Jones, age 20, was arrested by Spencer police Tuesday and brought to the Cerro Gordo county jail, held on $2,000 cash-only bond. He was wanted on a warrant after a guilty plea in a fraud and theft case and is accused of violating his pre-sentencing release status. He pled guilty on July 6 and awaits sentencing on July 22. Records are incomplete on the details of his plea deal.
Mason City police say Jones was arrested by MCPD around March 13, 2015 for allegedly forging stolen checks and also withdrawing the money from a bank. Police were unable to confirm, however, the theft of other items a source in Nora Springs listed. This alleged victim claims Jones stole “checks, video games, Beats by Dre headphones and a craftsman toolbox worth $600.00.” The source also claims that Jones stole a social security check from an “elderly lady”.
Jones claims via social media he is “moving back” to Mason City in August.
