MASON CITY – The Bandfest Weekend officially started Thursday, May 23, but driving around Mason City’s uptown, you can plainly see the beginning sites of where the activities will take place.
Tarps, blankets, lawn chairs and caution tape are set-up in front of homes and businesses along East State Street and N. Pennsylvania Avenue, early Friday morning where the Bandfest Parade will be displaying it’s music, people and creations on Saturday.
You can spot East Park from surrounding areas by looking for the Ferris Wheel high in the sky.  At 5:00 pm today, Friday, the carnival will start and the first of children and the children at heart will begin their summer carnival experience by riding the rides, eating the food and playing the games.
Everyone have a safe and happy Bandfest and Memorial Weekend.

Does anyone know wheich band won the competition? Have looked on the GG and here and media coverage has been horrible. Except for this one story, you’d think band fest didn’t even exist this weekend.

I remember telling a friend from out east how people set up chairs, tents, and blankets to reserve space on the parade route in Clear Lake for the 4th of July and she was just overwhelmed by this information. She couldn’t believe that the stuff was still there the next morning! She said everything would be stolen out there. LOL Another reason to be glad we live in rural Iowa instead of anywhere else.

Bull, Iowans are greedy nutcases. There’s no reserving space by setting your things there! If my body shows up first, I get the spot. It’s ridiculous that this is even allowed. It’s not where I live.

It’s too cold and wet. Summer isn’t even here yet, I’m staying in bed. I’ll be back on my bike in a few days when it’s up to 80. My furnace even came back on and had to pull out the winter blankets again.
