OTTUMWA – A Drakesville child drowned Sunday afternoon at Lake Wapello State Park in Davis County.
A search for three-year-old Jude Willis-Sackett began shortly before 4 p.m. after he disappeared from the beach area. The child was found about 15 minutes later, unresponsive, in the swimming area under about 3 feet of water. CPR was administered immediately onsite. He was transported by ambulance to the Davis County Hospital and then air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals where he was later pronounced dead.
The DNR was assisted on the scene by the Davis County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and first responders from Davis County Hospital.
Where are the parents/guardians when these young children are near the water. Part of being a parent, is to constantly watch your children, especially at this age. What a shame.
