Mason City man takes a dip in pool after alleged crime spree

MASON CITY – Cops say a Mason City man went on a crime spree before he took a dip in the public pool, just a few yards from his victims.

Mason City police were called to the Mason City Aquatic Center just after midnight Tuesday on a report from a caller about a man swimming in the pool well after closing time. Officers arrived and arrested 30-year-old Brandon Dean Olsen.

After an investigation, officers became aware of a number of thefts in the area. They checked Olsen over and found stolen items from the MacNider campground and the Key Apartments in his possession. Stolen bicycles were found, and police are seeking the owners at this time.

Olsen was taken to the county jail where he is still being held on bond. He is charged with criminal trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, and two counts of theft in the third degree.
