MASON CITY – Police in Mason City have charged a woman with felonies after she attempted to cash phony checks around town.
Angela Chante Jefferson, age 19 of Des Moines, was arrested last week and brought to the Cerro Gordo county jail from Polk county after an arrest warrant was issued by a judge. Mason City police brought charges of forgery, second degree theft and conspiracy to commit felony after evidence was presented that she was trying to cash fraudulent checks at local grocery stores.
Jefferson is being held at this time on $10,000 cash bond as she awaits a hearing on April 10. She has been appointed a public defender.
